I’ve been making this basic oatmeal recipe for the last ten years. Every single person in the family enjoys this one (which is SHOCKING) and it can be doctored up in any way you choose.
1/2cupold fashioned oatscertified gluten free if needed
1Tbspchia seeds
1Tbspmaple syrup
Instructions:
Add milk, water, and salt into a small sauce pan and bring to a boil. Be careful not to let the liquid boil over, it will happen quickly. Add in rolled oats and chia seeds and immediately reduce the temperature to low.
Cook on low heat for 5-7 minutes or until all of the liquid has been absorbed.
Let stand for 2-3 minutes before adding in the maple syrup. This will help to loosen up the oats so it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan.
Transfer to a bowl and enjoy as is or top with your favorite fruit and/or nut butters.
Notes:
Add in 1/4 cup of chopped fruit like strawberries or blueberries for some extra yumminess. Swap out the maple syrup for your favorite jam, jelly, butters, or preserves. Add in a Tbsp of peanut butter or almond butter for a little added oomph.
